Hálsaskógur Forest is a scenic outdoor recreation area on Búlandsnes peninsula, just west of Djúpavogur. The forest offers a peaceful environment where nature, history and outdoor activities come together.
Well-maintained walking paths wind through the forest, making it ideal for easy hikes suitable for all ages. Visitors will find benches, picnic tables, information signs and tree-species markers throughout the area.
One of the forest’s most distinctive natural features is Gatklettur, a unique rock formation created approximately 8–10 million years ago when lava flowed around a tree trunk that later decomposed, leaving behind the characteristic holes visible today.
The area also contains historical remains such as old ruins, sheep pens and striking rock formations, while the forest itself stands as an impressive example of long-term Icelandic forestry and land restoration.
Hálsaskógur er áhugaverður staður á Íslandi sem vert er að heimsækja.
