Tintron is a cave and a pseudocrater located in the Gjábakkahraun lava field, close to the road between Þingvellir and Laugarvatn. It forms part of the diverse volcanic landscape of the area.
Tintron was formed when hot lava flowed over wetlands or water, causing steam explosions that created pseudocraters. A cave is associated with the crater, adding to the geological interest of the site.
The surrounding area is easily accessible and offers insight into lava flows and the formation of pseudocraters. Tintron is therefore an interesting stop for visitors interested in geology and the volcanic history of the Þingvellir region.
