Fjallsjökull

Séð

Fjallsjökull is an outlet glacier flowing south from Vatnajökull, Iceland’s largest ice cap. It is located within the Skaftafell area of Vatnajökull National Park.

The glacier terminates at the picturesque Fjallsárlón glacial lagoon, where icebergs regularly calve from the glacier front and drift across the still waters.

Like many of Iceland’s outlet glaciers, Fjallsjökull has retreated significantly in recent decades. This retreat has reshaped the landscape, forming new lagoons, moraines, and sediment plains.

The area provides an excellent opportunity to observe the visible effects of climate change, with clearly defined glacier margins and freshly exposed terrain. Walking trails in the vicinity offer panoramic views of ice, mountains, and water.

Fjallsjökull is a popular destination for photographers and nature enthusiasts seeking to experience the dramatic interaction between glaciers, mountains, and glacial lagoons in southeast Iceland.

Fjallsjökull er áhugaverður staður á Íslandi sem vert er að heimsækja.
