The cave is located on the small “island” of Sandey, out on the sands near Djúpavogur. Access to the cave is only possible at low tide, as seawater fills the cave during high tide.
The cave is fairly spacious and visiting it can be a memorable experience, especially in the evening light when the setting sun reflects off the sea and illuminates the interior of the cave.
A short climb is required to enter the cave, but most visitors should be able to manage it with some assistance. The rocks around the cave can be slippery, so caution is advised. A sign on the island indicates the location of the cave.
