Bakkagerðiskirkja is located in Bakkagerði in Borgarfjörður Eystri in East Iceland. The church was consecrated in 1901 and has long served as an important part of the local community.
It is a small and modest wooden church, typical of rural Icelandic churches built around the turn of the 20th century. The building reflects both the religious life and settlement history of the region.
Set within the dramatic mountain landscape of Borgarfjörður Eystri, the church is one of the village’s main landmarks. It remains in active use for services and other church ceremonies.
