Orustuhóll

Orustuhóll is a small hill located on Skeiðarársandur, within the Brunahraun lava field in southeast Iceland. The area is characterized by vast outwash plains, lava formations and rugged terrain shaped by volcanic eruptions and glacial floods.

The name “Orustuhóll” translates as “Battle Hill” and is believed to stem from local folklore referring to conflicts or dramatic events in the past, although no written sources confirm the exact origin of the name.

The hill lies within a geologically remarkable landscape, strongly influenced by the activity of Vatnajökull, volcanic systems and repeated glacial outburst floods.

Orustuhóll is often viewed as part of journeys across Skaftafell, the South Coast and along Iceland’s Ring Road, where it stands near one of the country’s largest sand and lava plains.
