Vík Church is located in Vík í Mýrdal on Iceland’s South Coast and is one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks. The church was built in 1934 and seats approximately 200 people.
Constructed of concrete, the church stands on a hill above the village, making it clearly visible from both land and sea. Due to its elevated position, it also serves as an important emergency shelter in case of flooding or coastal hazards.
The hilltop offers panoramic views across Reynisfjara Beach, the Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks and the surrounding Mýrdalur region.
Vík Church remains an active parish church and is one of the most photographed sites along Iceland’s South Coast.
