Litlanesfoss is a scenic waterfall in the Hengifossá river in Fljótsdalur and is also known as Stuðlabergsfoss. The waterfall is approximately 30 meters high and flows into a narrow gorge, forming a curtain-like cascade as it descends.
What makes Litlanesfoss particularly striking is its dramatic setting. The waterfall is surrounded by tall and remarkably regular basalt columns that rise in straight, vertical formations. These columnar basalt cliffs create a strong visual contrast with the falling water and make the site geologically unique.
Litlanesfoss is a popular stop along the hiking trail to Hengifoss and offers an excellent opportunity to observe Iceland’s volcanic geology up close. It is an ideal place to pause, enjoy the scenery, and capture photographs of one of the country’s most impressive basalt formations.
Litlanesfoss er áhugaverður staður á Íslandi sem vert er að heimsækja.
