Skjálfandi is a large bay in North Iceland located between Tjörnes and Flateyjarskagi. The bay opens northward into the Greenland Sea and is known for its rich marine life and dramatic coastal scenery.
On the southern shore lies the town of Húsavík, the main settlement along Skjálfandi. The area has long been associated with fishing and seafaring, and in recent decades has become Iceland’s primary center for whale watching.
Skjálfandi lies within an active tectonic region, and its name is linked to the geological forces that shape the area. The interaction between ocean, mountains, and volcanic systems gives the bay its distinctive natural character.
The bay’s depth and cold ocean currents create ideal conditions for a wide variety of whale species. As a result, Skjálfandi is widely regarded as one of the best locations in Iceland for observing whales in their natural habitat.
Skjálfandi er áhugaverður staður á Íslandi sem vert er að heimsækja.
Skjálfandi er hluti af fjölbreyttri náttúru, menningu og afþreyingu Íslands.
