Sönghellir is a lava cave known for its distinctive acoustics. Sounds carry clearly inside the cave and often produce unusual echoes, which is the reason behind the cave’s name, meaning “the Singing Cave.”
The cave was formed by lava flows and features smooth walls and vaulted chambers that enhance sound resonance. Such acoustic properties are relatively rare and make Sönghellir an interesting site for visitors exploring lava caves.
Sönghellir has long attracted the interest of both locals and visitors and serves as an example of the diversity found in Icelandic lava caves, where geological features combine with a unique sensory experience.
