Súgandafjörður is a scenic and deep fjord in the Westfjords of Iceland, located between Önundarfjörður and Dýrafjörður. The fjord branches inland from Ísafjarðardjúp and is surrounded by steep mountains that create a sheltered and distinctive landscape.
At the head of the fjord lies the village of Suðavík, which has long been one of the region’s important fishing communities. Settlement in Súgandafjörður has traditionally been shaped by the sea, with fishing playing a central role in local life for centuries.
Súgandafjörður is known for its natural beauty, rich birdlife, and opportunities for outdoor recreation. Walking routes along the shoreline and mountain slopes offer wide views across the fjord and toward Ísafjarðardjúp.
The fjord is only a short drive from Ísafjörður, the largest town in the Westfjords, making it an easy stop when exploring the northern part of the region.
