Guðlaug
Guðlaug is a geothermal outdoor pool located within a stone
embankment by
Langisandur beach
in
Akranes.
The pool was designed to blend natural elements with modern facilities, creating
a relaxing space by the sea that has quickly become popular with both locals
and visitors.
Guðlaug is classified as a natural and recreational pool and is open all year
round. Admission is free of charge, and changing facilities are available on
site. Warm water, fresh sea air, and views across Faxaflói Bay combine to create
a memorable bathing experience, especially during colder months when steam
rises from the pool.
Its location by Langisandur makes Guðlaug an ideal stop after a coastal walk or
outdoor activity. Many visitors combine a visit to the pool with a walk along
the shoreline or a trip to
Akranes Lighthouse
and the
old lighthouse,
both of which are among the town’s most recognizable landmarks.
The surrounding area offers a wide range of attractions, including the
inflatable play area,
Akranes Swimming Pool,
and the
Akranes campsite.
Visitors interested in culture and scenery may also explore
Innri-Hólmur Church
or enjoy views toward
Mount Akrafjall.
In a short time, Guðlaug has become an important part of Akranes’ identity as a
town focused on outdoor recreation and wellbeing. The combination of the ocean,
volcanic stone, geothermal water, and open public space makes the pool a unique
place for relaxation throughout the year.
