Langisandur
Langisandur is a long and well-known shoreline in
Akranes,
stretching from the area near the former cement factory
along the sports fields toward Jaðarsbakkar
and the Höfði residential care center. The beach has long served as an important
outdoor recreation area for the local community.
Langisandur is used year-round for walking and outdoor activities. A coastal
path runs alongside the beach, offering easy access and wide views across
Faxaflói Bay, where the scenery changes constantly with the seasons and weather.
During summer, the area can become lively as residents and visitors gather to
enjoy the open space, sea air, and occasional beach activities.
Over the years, Langisandur has been a playground and gathering place for
generations of people from Akranes. Children have played along the shore, while
athletes and sports enthusiasts once used the sandy stretch as a training area,
particularly for football. This long-standing use has made the beach an
integral part of the town’s sporting and cultural heritage.
Today, Langisandur remains a popular destination for both locals and visitors,
especially due to its proximity to
Guðlaug,
the geothermal outdoor pool located by the shore. Many people combine a walk or
run along the beach with a relaxing swim, or continue on to visit
Akranes Lighthouse,
one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks.
More than just a beach, Langisandur is a living outdoor space that connects
nature, history, and everyday life in Akranes. It offers room for movement,
relaxation, and reflection, shaped by the sea and changing seasons.
Langisandur er áhugaverður staður á Íslandi sem vert er að heimsækja.
