Vatnsgjá is a deep fissure or crevice located at the bottom of Búrfellsgjá, just north of the sheep enclosure. The depth from the surface to the water level is approximately six meters.
The water in the fissure is fresh and continuously renewed. Vatnsgjá was a key factor in the establishment of a former summer farm (selstaða) in this area, as access to reliable freshwater was essential for livestock and daily life.
Vatnsgjá er áhugaverður staður á Íslandi sem vert er að heimsækja.
