Tjörnin, also known as Reykjavík Pond, is a shallow lake located in the city center of Reykjavík. The water flowing into Tjörnin comes from the Vatnsmýri wetland to the south and flows out through the stream Lækur, which runs beneath Lækjargata and into the bay.
Many notable buildings are located around Tjörnin, including Reykjavík City Hall, Iðnó, Tjarnarskóli, the National Gallery of Iceland, and the Free Church of Reykjavík. Nearby is Hljómskálagarðurinn, the only formal public garden in downtown Reykjavík.
Tjörnin and its surroundings are rich in birdlife and serve as a popular recreational area. A particularly common activity among families with young children is visiting the pond to watch the birds and feed the ducks.
